NWU Programmes and Entry Requirements for 2027
NWU Programmes and Entry Requirements for 2027
Choosing the right university is the first step toward a successful career, and North-West University (NWU) continues to be a top choice for students seeking high-quality, affordable education in a safe and inclusive environment. As you prepare for the 2027 academic year, understanding the specific programmes offered and their unique entry requirements is essential for a successful application.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To secure an admission at NWU, you must satisfy these minimum academic requirements:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification
- Required Admission Point Score (APS)
- English proficiency (usually Level 4 or higher)
Understanding the Admission Point Score (APS)
At NWU, academic performance is measured using the Admission Point Score (APS). This score is a standardized way to evaluate your results from your six best subjects.
- Life Orientation Exclusion: It is critical to note that Life Orientation is strictly excluded from the APS calculation.
- Calculation Basis: If you are currently in Grade 12, your final Grade 11 results are used for your initial application and provisional offer.
- Minimum Thresholds: While each programme has a specific APS, most bachelor’s degrees require a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 50% in four 20-credit subjects.
Key Programmes and Faculty Requirements
NWU offers a diverse range of qualifications across eight faculties, each with distinct prerequisites.
1. Faculty of Health Sciences
Health Sciences programmes are highly competitive and often involve selection processes.
- Bachelor of Pharmacy: Requires a minimum APS of 32, with at least Level 5 (60%) in both Pure Mathematics and Physical Sciences. This programme is only offered at the Potchefstroom campus.

- Music Selection: Applicants must submit audition videos by 13 September 2026, following their initial application.
