Application Opening
The application period for the 2027 academic year at North-West University (NWU) begins on 1 June 2026. This applies to all applicants, including both South African and international students, whether they are starting a new qualification or switching programmes.
Application Deadlines
Applicants should take note of the following closing dates:
- General applications: 31 October 2026
- Student residence applications: 31 October 2026
Early Closing for Selection Programmes
Programmes with limited space, often referred to as selection programmes, have an earlier deadline of 31 August 2026. These include:
- Music
- Nursing
- Pharmacy
- Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil)
- Occupational Therapy and Dietetics
Programme-Specific Requirements and Key Dates
Some courses require additional steps after submitting your application:
- Music: Submit audition videos online by 13 September 2026
- Nursing: Provide Grade 12 June exam results by the second week of September 2026
- Pharmacy: Submit official Grade 12 mid-year results by the second week of September 2026; failure to do so will lead to cancellation of your application
Important Reminder
Because selection programmes have limited availability, late submissions are usually not considered. Applicants are encouraged to have their final Grade 11 results ready to upload as soon as applications open in June.

- Selection is primarily based on academic performance, but the number of available spaces also plays a key role.
