How to Apply for NWU Courses

Applying to North-West University (NWU) is straightforward, as the entire process is completed online through the university’s application system. There is no application fee required when applying.

What You Need to Apply

Before starting your application, ensure you have the following prerequisites:

  • Valid Email Address: You must have a unique, personal email address that will serve as your username for the application portal.
  • Digital Documents: Have PDF or JPEG scans of your Identity Document (not a birth certificate) and your final Grade 11 results (or Grade 12 results if you have already matriculated).
  • One Application Rule: You can only apply once per academic year but may select up to two study choices.

NWU Online Application Process

Follow the steps below to apply online:

  1. Create a Profile: Visit the NWU online portal and register using your email address and personal details exactly as they appear on your ID.
  2. Retrieve Login Details: Check your email for a temporary password sent by the university.
  3. Get Oriented: Log in and read the “Instruction to Candidate” section carefully before clicking “Apply Now”.
  4. Choose Study Options: Select your preferred delivery method (contact or distance), campus (Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, or Vanderbijlpark), and your two study choices. Note that specific qualifications are linked to specific campuses.
  5. Personal Details: Confirm your full names and contact information, and grant permission for NWU to use your information according to the POPI Act.
    • Tip: Do not change your email or cell phone number during the application year to ensure you receive updates.
  6. Academic Information: Capture your most recently completed high school marks. For current Grade 12 students, this refers to your final Grade 11 results. You must enter seven subjects plus Life Orientation.
  7. Residence & Funding: Indicate how you plan to fund your studies and whether you are interested in applying for residence placement.
  8. Upload Documents: Upload all mandatory documents marked with red stars.
  9. Submit: Review all details, sign the declaration by ticking the check box, and click “Submit”.
  10. Track Status: After submission, use your dashboard to track your application status and application number.
